North vs. South

I find it interesting that in the "ignorant","backwards", "deep dark"" South, I am allowed to more autonomy in my career, than in the "forward thinking", "cosmopolitan/metropolitan", "so much more sophisticated" North.

Needless to say I was reamed out by a doctor last week. I've waited until now to post about it because I didn't want to post while pissed. I won't go into details because only some of you have worked in the L&D area, and the rest of ou wont have much of an idea what I'm talking about. But lets put it this way: As a nurse, I have the knowledge and ability to adjust medication within certain parameters. It's my perogative to adjust according to what your contractions are doing. I lowered my patients dosage because I thought her body could use a short rest. I got ripped a new one and told "that's not your call to make". My answer? "It *IS* my call to make. Everywhere but here". Turns out, I was right.

The nurses there in NYC, at least in the hospital I'm at, just are not "allowed" to do the RN-type of things that other RN's around the nation do. I find this interesting. Why? Because, New York (and especially NYC), has a reputation to be "the place". You know what I mean. The place where ideas start. The place where other hospitals in other locations, such as Middle America, look to and quote from on the "latest and greatest in healthcare". I thought I'd go there and find it cutting edge. I'm finding it.....well, not so much.

That being said, I'm going back in January for another tour. I do enjoy working with the nurses there. I'm learning which docs to try to avoid working with. And, I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment!

So, if any of you, my friends, want to come and visit.....just let me know! Although, I'm switching companies (and earning $8/hr MORE), and will most likely be in a....gasp!....studio! I'll post pictures!

Keep warm everyone!

I'm a little freaked out....

Seriously. A couple of weeks ago, I came home from work to find my TV on. Now, I don't watch TV in the mornings while getting ready for work. I grabbed my nearest can of Mace and checked all the closets. Nobody there *whew*. I blew it off to LillieBelle jumping up on the TV stand (and therefore the remote) en route to the window.
Ok, all is forgotten. Then, last week, my laptop keyboard got a broken "C" key. Don't know what I did. Nothing major, just the key top, the plastic part got VERY loose, almost like it was hanging on by a thread (so to speak), and I had to make an effort to push the key down anytime I needed the letter "c". I tried to pop the key back in place This goes on for several days. Then the other day.....*POOF* Keyboard is fixed. Not by me. Ok, now I'm wierded out.

I mean, this in NYC. This apt is a sublet. The owner I'm sure has the key. Seriously....I'm a little wierded out.

I dare any of you to post a comment with your theories on what's going on here.
